Challenge

Franklin, a vibrant community just south of Nashville, is home to 12 parks, with Liberty Park being the largest. However, the park lacks essential features such as ADA-compliant equipment, after-dark accessibility, and the integration of modern technology like interactive media that could positively influence the community. These gaps presented a significant opportunity to redesign the space and better serve the growing population in Williamson County.

Addressing User Needs

Finding a solution using an iterative design process from a human-centered perspective.

Liberty Park must prioritize accessibility for all individuals to thrive as a sustainable community space. The surrounding communities expressed a need for improved traffic flow for pedestrians and vehicles for a more convenient walk in the park. The park’s expansive area offers potential for a secure layout that encourages repeat visits for families. The aim is to facilitate an organic flow throughout the space, drawing inspiration from nearby modernized parks to enhance the experience.

Conceptualizing

In Franklin, our approach is comprehensive: integrating accessibility, safety, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.

We're creating self-sustainable safe spaces that foster early learning, mental relief, and family well-being. Through low-maintenance redesign funded by local sponsors, we're providing sustainable interactive designs that nurture early child development. Our plan includes increasing wayfinding signage, interactive park installations, immersive lighting for nighttime activities, and introducing new sensory experiences.
